Case study · Unscripted field production

Follow the character.
Protect the story.

A reality and documentary producer/shooter needs to recognize what matters while it is still happening—following relationships, reactions, reversals, and the smaller moments that give editors a story.

A story producer’s instinct behind the lens.

Sergio’s unscripted background began long before the current producer/shooter model became standard. He created and executive produced MTV’s Sorority Life, worked within the Fraternity Life world, and produced and wrote episodes of E! True Hollywood Story. That experience shaped an approach built around character motivation, developing relationships, scene objectives, and editorial payoff.

Field and factual experience

Additional production experience includes National Geographic’s The Watch and Croc Catchers NT in Australia, along with work on Viceland’s King of the Road and Fusion’s Cars vs America. These credits span biography, adventure, culture, automotive storytelling, and fast-moving personality-led environments.

Producer/shooter capabilities

  • Character follow and observational vérité coverage
  • Field interviews, pickups, B-roll, and reaction coverage
  • Story awareness without interrupting authentic action
  • Compact camera, basic lighting, and field-audio support
  • Calm adaptation when schedules, locations, or scenes change
  • Coverage designed to give editors connective tissue and options
